Fava Beans

Vicia faba

Description

Introduced by the Spanish for cool season agriculture. The large seeds are eaten both green and dry. Favas are the most efficient nitrogen fixers of all the annual legumes, making them an excellent cover crop. Approx. 25 Seeds/packet.

Culture

A cool season crop that should be planted in the fall or early spring, 1 inch deep, 6-8 inches apart. Plants are 2-3 feet tall and can have many side shoots.

Seed Saving

An annual that is mainly self pollinating, although the large showy white flowers can attract pollinators. The pods should mature on the plant and can be harvested throughout the growing season.
