Description

A shrub, native to the New World and valued for its blue pigment, indigo is perennial in frost-free areas of the Sonoran Desert. Mature shrubs can be 3-6 ft. tall. Plants thrive in hot weather and can be set back by cool weather. Can be grown indoors in containers.

Seed Saving

A self-pollinating legume, indigo is an annual unless protected from freezes. Harvest the small dried pods, crush and use a small gauge screen to winnow off chaff.
