F004

Isleta Pueblo

  • F004
  • Cucumis melo. This orange- and green-fleshed melon is from Isleta Pueblo near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tolerates heat. A very diverse accession, with some plants producing round fruit and some producing longer, oblong fruit shapes. Some ribbed and some not. For this and other thin skinned melons, turn the growing melons once a week to keep them from developing a soft spot where they touch the ground.  From our Seed-Bank Collection.

    • Origin: High desert, 4902' elevation
    • Approx. 1g/25 seeds per packet.
    • Limit 3 packets
  • $3.95

Extremely productive

These melons are incredibly productive but they have a short shelf life. I was advised by an Isleta farmer to turn the developing melons weekly as they can develop a soft spot when left in contact with the ground. Also, pick them when they begin to turn yellow, as they continue to ripen after harvest. We had an extremely hot summer which hurt some of my vegetables, but these melons thrived.
