Sesamum indicum. The light tan/white seed of this heirloom Benne is far more flavorful than modern sesame. Leaves can be used as soup greens; seeds used to flavor rice and baked goods, and can be made into a flour. Nutritionally, it is high in protein, contains no cholesterol and is rich in calcium, iron, zinc, and vitamins. Seed acquired from Anson Mills, which preserves/promotes heirloom Southern crops. The plants were highly productive at our Conservation Farm in Patagonia, AZ.  Also loves the humidity of the monsoon rains in the low desert.  Not from our Seed Bank Collection, but your purchase supports our conservation mission.
