Thursday, June 28, 2018
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
NS/S Conservation Center: 3584 E. River Rd. Tucson, AZ 85718
The monsoon season is the traditional time to plant many vegetables in the desert which may also be why it is known to many gardeners as "second spring." This season opens up a wide range of planting possibilities as well as a new range of complications. We will go over which vegetable and herb varieties to plant, protecting your garden from the heat and winds, and maximizing rainwater. This workshop is for the newbie desert gardener as well as the seasoned that may just need a refresher course in monsoon planting. Participants will go home with a variety of monsoon-ready seeds to plant in their own gardens. Class size is limited, so sign up today!

This workshop empowers you to create an environment that fosters successful native bee populations in gardens, orchards, and natural spaces. Learn about these vital pollinators by reviewing basic information about native bees and their contribution as pollinators, focusing on key species and their life cycles, and reviewing best plants for native bees. Information and examples of how to make your own native bee nest from repurposed materials will be presented so that you can start attracting native bees in your area. Facilitator is Bill McGuire, a desert gardener, and native bee enthusiast. Bill is on the Board of Directors for Native Seeds/SEARCH, a regional agricultural seed conservation organization based in Tucson, Arizona.
