NS/S Retail Store Closure

...Sadly we announce the permanent closing of our store on Campbell Ave.

Amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic, NS/S has decided to move all retail operations online, and permanently close the retail store on Campbell Avenue in Tucson, AZ.

With the onset of COVID-19, the retail store was closed for the health and safety of staff and customers, and the majority of the inventory was moved to the online store. While we greatly missed connecting with everyone, it opened the door for us to connect with supporters all over the country and for them to interact with us in a new way. It also made us think about our operations in a new way. Retail sales support local and regional artisans but also the NS/S mission ... and it’s a fun way for people to support seed conservation. Moving to an online business model makes us more accessible to people nationwide and allows us to refocus on our core Mission.

To stay connected with our Tucson community, NS/S will continue to hold periodic events at our Conservation Center on River Rd, just like we did at the retail store. Additionally, we’ve added an option for “local pickup” for orders placed online, which has also helped to increase an awareness of the Conservation Center, where seeds are conserved, grown and distributed.

Over the last few years we have been streamlining to operate more efficiently. This included moving growing operations from our farm in Patagonia to on-premise grow-outs in Tucson, and with local and regional growers. In doing so we have been able to keep costs down, have more organizational cohesion, and prioritize sharing and growing seeds through partnerships, especially with farmers that have cultural connections to the seeds.

The choice to centralize operations at the Conservation Center will ensure that we stay focused on the seeds we steward and important work of continuing to conserve, grow and share these seeds. We acknowledge the loyal customers and supporters who followed us from the Tucson Botanical Garden to 4th avenue and then Campbell Ave. We look forward to continuing to connect with you in this next phase of our growth.
