Oval Split Stitch Basket with Desert Tortoise Motif Lid

This handwoven oval lidded basket is by Tohono O'odham weaver Della Cruz and measures approximately 6 inches long and 3.75 inches high.

Plant materials are hand gathered from the Sonoran Desert for basket weaving. The interior green coils (warp) are native Beargrass and the white stitches (weft) woven around the coils are sun-bleached Soaptree Yucca, and the green stitching is unbleached Soaptree Yucca. The black trim used on the lid trim and for the tortoise motif is Devil's Claw pod.
