Border Crosser

  • DC033
  • Capsicum annuum.  This chiltepin variety was purchased in the Tohono O'odham village of Santa Rosa in 1981, but was previously harvested in Mexico. This tiny round red-hot chile illustrates the cross-border trade and travel that was common for many years prior to the militarization of the border.  O'odham territory existed long before the creation of the U.S. - Mexico border, and O'odham families live in both the U.S and Mexico. Many cultural and familial activities, including the sharing of seeds, have been greatly impaired by the border.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

    • Origin: low desert, about 1700' elevation
    • Approx. 0.1g/25 seeds per packet.
    • Limit 3 packets.
