Hopi Migration Pot By Agnes Setalla

  • NFDON8
  • This lovely pot by Agnes Nahsonhoya Setalla (b. 1956) measures approximately 7 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches high, with a 5 inch opening. It depicts a traditional Hopi geometric migration pattern.

Agnes is the daughter of noted Hopi potter Pauline Setalla and the niece of Eunice "Fawn" Navasie. Agnes learned the art of pottery making from both her mother and her aunt, as well as her grandmother Agnes Navasie. Her pieces are signed with the name "Agnes Setalla" and a bear paw symbol, a reflection of her belonging to the Bear Clan.

A quote from the artist: "I was born in Keams Canyon, Arizona and reared on a small ranch in Snowbird Canyon.  I'm a Hopi potter and a member of the Bear Clan.  My family has been working with clay for a very long time.  I have always been interested in art."
