Lagenaria siceraria.  These quart-sized, pear-shaped gourds are still used as water containers by the Tarahumara of the Barranca del Cobre (Copper Canyon) in Chihuahua, Mexico. A shoulder strap of hemp or iztle (agave fiber) is knotted into a sling around the bulb for carrying. From our Seed Bank Collection. 

  • Origin: low desert, about 1970' elevation
  • Gourds range 7-11" tall
  • Approx. 2.5g/15 seeds per packet.
