Cicer arietinum.  Chickpeas, or Garbanzo Beans, are an ancient legume that was introduced to the Southwest by the Spanish.  Native American and Hispanics historically ate the beans both green and dried.  This variety was collected in the early 1990's and came from near Navajoa in Sonora.  It is associated with the Mayo people.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

  • Origin: Low Desert
  • Plant in January-February in the low desert, or in early spring in cooler climates.
  • Prefers well drained soil and arid climates.
  • Approx.   10g/ 25 seeds per packet.
