Proboscidea parviflora var. hohokamiana.  A white-seeded domesticate collected from a Chemehuevi basket maker in 1979. She originally obtained the seed from the Supai. The claws can grow up to 14 inches in length.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

Be aware that Devil’s claw seeds need hot temperatures in order to germinate, and may take as long as 3-4 weeks or even longer to sprout.  You can aid germination by scarifying the seeds: use a sharp knife to split open the seed coat at the pointy end, and soak in water overnight before planting.
