Rarámuri (Tarahumara) Baskets
The Rarámuri (Tarahumara) live in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Southwest Chihuahua, Mexico. They are subsistence farmers raising traditional varieties of corn, beans, and squash. Many aspects of their lives have changed little over the past 1,000 years, and closely resemble the prehistoric Mogollion Culture of Southern New Mexico and Arizona. Their baskets utilize locally available raw materials found in Chihuahua's deep tropical canyons and vine covered mountain ranges.
