    Tortuga Lidded Basket - Tohono O'odham

      • This handwoven lidded Tortoise Basket is by Tohono O'odham artist Fred Cruz from Sells, Arizona. Della and Fred are known for their signature sculptural baskets. These baskets measure approximately 3.5 inches in diameter and 3.75 inches high. Neck measures about 2 inches long and legs are approx. 1.75 inches high.
      • Plant materials are hand gathered from the Sonoran Desert. Coils are native Beargrass and the split stitches are of sun-bleached and unbleached Soaptree Yucca.
      • Measurements are approximate and some details may vary, as each is handmade
      • Keep away from sunlight to maintain color variations.

    Turtle lidded basket perfect for seed storage

    Here in the Northeast according to the traditional Haudenosaunee people it was Sky Woman who brought seeds from the Great Tree of Life down to Earth and planted them on Turtle Island. I love using this basket with school children who hear this story and plant the gardens. Well made and beautiful!!
