Salt River Pima

  • Q009
  • Pisum sativum. From the Salt River Pima - Maricopa Indian Community in Phoenix, where they are grown in the cool season. The fresh peas are nice and sweet when picked young before the peas fill the pod. The dried peas are good in soups and stews. The large seeds are tan and smooth. Hardy in low desert winters but also performed well in spring at our former farm in Patagonia. From our Seed Bank Collection.

    • Origin: low desert, 1299' elevation
    • Can perform well in higher elevations
    • Benefits from support, can grow to 5'
    • Approx. 11g/50 seeds per packet.
    • Limit 3 packets.
    • $3.95

    Bountiful peas!

I've grown these the last two winter seasons in Phoenix and both years they grew well and produced more peas than I could eat! High germination success rate, easy to grow, and delicious.

    Great growing experience!

Easy to grow pea variety that yielded great results! The peas were yummy and went well in our stews. Pods were small compared to sugar snaps but the flavor was so much better! Any pods we didn't eat helped in our compost bin. The plants came to fruit pretty quickly so we already dried some peas to re-plant for another round.

    Always a success

I have purchased many seeds from native over the years for myself and as gifts, even with inexperienced gardeners the seeds are always successful at germination.
