Hopi Wheat
Triticum aestivum. A short red winter wheat grown below the Hopi Mesas. Grows to just over 3' tall. The wheat is used in making Pik'am, Hopi sweet pudding.
For areas with mild winter climates, wheat is planted in the fall and winter, from approximately late October to December and harvested in April or May before the onset of the summer rains. Plant in the early spring in other areas. A single packet of wheat seeds will plant a 3 ft x 3 ft with a dense stand of wheat. An 8 oz packet of seed will be enough to cover a 35 ft x 35 ft (1225 sq ft) plot. Larger areas should use a seeding rate of 70-100 lbs per acre. From our Seed-Bank Collection.
- Origin: high desert
- Can perform well in low desert winters also
- A cool season crop
- Approx. 32g/700 seeds per packet
- Limit 3 packets.
