Organic Black Tepary Beans - Heirloom, Non-GMO

    • FD161.24oz
    • A rare heirloom variety native to the American Southwest, Black Tepary Beans are prized for their firm texture, rich flavor, and exceptional nutrition. Naturally high in protein and fiber with a low glycemic index, these drought-tolerant beans have been cultivated by Indigenous communities for generations and remain an important traditional food of the desert Southwest.

Born of an ancient tradition of separating the black seeds before planting the white or brown teparies, the beans were grown, harvested, and selected over many years to bring out the hidden traits of this unique variety. Their firm texture and subtle, rich flavor work beautifully in soups, stews and salads.

Indigenous to the American Southwest, tepary beans have long been grown by Native communities for their drought tolerance and remarkable nutrition - offering a rich source of fiber and protein with a low glycemic index.

For extra depth of flavor try adding Posole Spice Blend (see below)!

    Black tepary bean chilled salad

As mentioned in the NS/S bean recipe section, the cooked (black) tepary beans have a different texture than most cooked beans. I pressure cooked them for 50 minutes and they were still pretty firm. However, that wasn't bad in the salad-even the leftovers still had a good texture and flavor for 2 days.

    So good!

I feel so good eating these beans. First of all, I love supporting Native Seeds Search, and besides that they taste fantastic. Thank you so much for making them available.
