  • Phaseolus vulgaris. An early maturing bean from the Rio Bavispe watershed in northeastern Sonora. Bushy plants with a late tendency to vine, but do not require support. Great tasting as a green bean, and can cope with the heat. It grows great in Phoenix, according to our partner farmer at Pinnacle Farms who plants it in late summer.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

    • Origin: low desert, 1640' elevation

Too Early

The weather in Sacramento turned cold a few days after my corn sprouted. I could not plant the beans when the corn was 2"-4" tall--too cold. So, I will plant the beans this week when temperature is projected to consistently rise above 75 degrees in the day.
