Shandong Garlic - YELLOW BAG
Allium sativum. Shandong Garlic is a hot garlic that originated in and is still cultivated in the Shandong province of China. Grown by Breckenfeld Family Growers in Tucson, AZ. Available for a limited time through mid-November.
Tasting notes from NS/S Staff: A sharp, pungent, distinctive garlic with an immediate punch raw; roasting mellows it into a rich, pleasant, strongly garlicky flavor.
Storage and planting instructions:
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Plant during the windows of early October to late November
- Store in fridge 4-6 weeks before planting
- Plant pointed side up
Garlic prefers a rich soil high in organic matter and that drains well. Separate the cloves just prior to planting. Plant 6” apart, root end down, pointed end up. Cover with 2” of soil and a layer of mulch. Sprouts will appear in 4-8 weeks depending upon weather conditions. Garlic can tolerate frost and freezes. Keep weeded. In the Southwest, harvest in early May - early June depending on elevation.
Each garlic head includes approx. 8-12 cloves.
Please note: seed garlic bulbs may be missing cloves that were removed due to natural stages of deterioration.
