This perennial is named for its sombrero shape flowers that are usually dark red, sometimes with yellow or yellow edges. Also called Prairie Coneflower. Produces numerous flower stalks 1-2' high above lacy foliage. Blooms throughout summer. Drought tolerant. Native throughout much of the U.S. and Canada at elevations of 4000 to 7500 feet.
