Confined to western North America, Sand Verbena has sticky leaves, pink/purple verbena-like sweet-smelling flowers and grows thick and low after deep winter rains. Grows at elevations from 0-6500 feet in dry, well-drained soils. Can flower year-round.
Sand Verbena can be difficult to germinate; scarification, including breaking open papery fruit and soaking, can improve results. Frequently found in sandy washes, where tumultuous rainwater flow over sand and gravel will accomplish this in nature.
