Sand Verbena
Abronia villosa
Confined to western North America, Sand Verbena has sticky leaves, pink/purple verbena-like sweet-smelling flowers and grows thick and low after deep winter rains. Grows at elevations from 0-6500 feet in dry, well-drained soils. Can flower year-round.
Sand Verbena can be difficult to germinate; scarification, including breaking open papery fruit and soaking, can improve results. Frequently found in sandy washes, where tumultuous rainwater flow over sand and gravel will accomplish this in nature. Not from our Seed Bank Collection, but your purchase supports our conservation mission.
- One gram packet will cover approximately 30 square feet
