    Desert White Sweet (Modern Cross)

    • ZS143
    • Zea mays.  This sweet corn variety was bred in Tucson in the 1970’s and 80’s from an O’odham white flour corn and a hybrid sweet corn variety.  Russ Buhrow, who for many years was the plant curator at Tohono Chul Park, developed this stabilized cross by depending only on monsoon rainfall and flooding.  His imitation of traditional O’odham methods and use of O’odham corn have preserved a high level of drought tolerance in this variety.  Occasional flour-type kernels may be present.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

    Have not yet planted

I’m thrilled about being able to have found the Seed bank but have not yet planted any seeds from your variety I’ve purchased this year. As because it was the very end of when I could for our zone so I plan instead on storing and saving all seeds till next spring and planting them 🥰🥰🥰🥰 after last frost 😉

    Desert White Sweet Corn

Received the seeds promptly and they sprouted quickly and appeared healthy. They must have been delicious, because they disappeared overnight. We will try again when the garden is better defended from our local quail.
