Corn Pinole: Huuñ Haakĭ Chu'i

  • RF009
  • Grown by Ramona Farms, an Akimel O'odham owned business located on the Gila River Indian Reservation near Sacaton, AZ. Made from heirloom Pima 60 Day Corn, an ancient corn prized for its flavor and texture. The kernels are mesquite parched and stone milled to produce this delicious ancient "fast" food used by Pima runners as they traveled from village to village carrying important news.

Mix 2-3 heaping tablespoons into an 8 oz. glass of water, juice or smoothie. Sprinkle on yogurt or cereal. Corn Pinole makes a great coffee creamer. A nutritious, high energy snack food and excellent source of protein, fiber and carbohydrates. Enjoy!

    Organic, 8 oz. bag

Good but $$$

I tried this after reading about it in Born to Run. I enjoyed adding it to my smoothies and protein shakes to make them more substantial and filling. Good quality and tastes similar to popcorn. However, for the price I'm not sure if I will incorporate this into my long term routine.

Thought Born to Run Exaggerated This Stuff

So, I heard about this stuff from the book “Born to Run.” I tried it out but thought it was an exaggeration. Turns out, nope, it was pretty spot on. I sometimes add chia seeds. But usually just drink it straight. I am doing ten miles a day in training usually and have an ultra coming up with this stuff as my fuel. I’ll shoot about two or spoons of it about ten minutes or so before I go out; and I’ll carry a bottle of some of it with me. If it’s really hot out, maybe I’ll add some salt. 10/10 would recommend to my fellow endurance athletes!

Great Energy

I always drink before I run. 3-4 tbsp with 2 tbsp chia and some dates and agave. Plenty of energy and none of the gut issues that come with gels

Wonderful Flavor

I bought the pinole thinking I would only make hot cereal with it, as I was skeptical about using it as a drink. But it is absolutely delicious as a drink mixed with milk. The flavor is rich, earthy, sweet, roasted corny......just love it.
