Javelina Mom & Piglet Woven Sculpture - By Fred Cruz

This handwoven basket sculpture is by Tohono O'odham Fred Cruz and measures approximately 7 inches at its highest point with a 6.25 inch round platform base. 

Plant materials are hand gathered from the Sonoran Desert for basket weaving. The interior green coils (warp) are native Beargrass and the white stitches (weft) woven around the coils are sun-bleached Soaptree Yucca. Green unbleached yucca stitching is used for the saguaro with rare red Banana Yucca root used to indicate saguaro fruit. The Javelinas are woven from both bleached and unbleached Soaptree Yucca.
