Vigna unguiculata. The color of deep red sandstone, this beautiful cowpea is from the Eagle Pass area of Texas. It was described as a heat tolerant "pole bean" with superior flavor.  Said to be an heirloom from south of the border.  The gardener/botanist who donated them said they "grow like Jack and the bean stalk beans."  Can be grown without support; vines will need to be tied to trellising if grown as a pole bean. Scarify or soak overnight to improve germination.  From our Seed Bank Collection.
