    Corrales Azafrán

    • HB014
    • Carthamus tinctorius. Safflower from the village of Corrales, New Mexico.  Azafrán translates as "saffron." This unrelated red/orange thistle-like flower was used as a saffron substitute in the Spanish Colonies.  (Approximately 2 Tbsp. of dried Azafran petals equals a pinch of saffron)

Keeps well as a dried flower, though flower calyxes are very prickly.

    Wonderful seeds!

We grew these the for the first time in the summer of 2021. They grew easily and were very bountiful. This year we were able to grow new plants from the seeds harvested from the plants we grew last year.
