San Carlos Apache Wild Devil's Claw

    • R017
    • Proboscidea parviflora var. parviflora. These wild plants from the San Carlos Apache reservation produce black seeds and short claws. Flowers are off-white with pale pink upper lobes. Large bushy plants. Wild claws were used in basketry until the domestication process resulted in plants with considerably longer, more pliant claws. From our Seed Bank Collection.

Be aware that Devil’s claw seeds need hot temperatures in order to germinate, and may take as long as 3-4 weeks or even longer to sprout.  You can aid germination by scarifying the seeds: use a sharp knife to split open the seed coat at the pointy end, and soak in water overnight before planting.

      • Origin: low desert, about 2600' elevation
      • Approx. 1.5g/25 seeds per packet.
      • Limit 3 packets.
    • $5.95
