    Desert Senna

    • WF008A
    • Senna covesii

Native to the southwestern US and northwest Mexico.  This upright shrubby yellow wildflower is a summer bloom that attracts birds and butterflies.  Drought tolerant.  Senna prefers well drained soils and makes a nice addition to a cactus garden.  Desert senna is a perennial whose growth will return in the spring, but it also reseeds freely. Not from our Seed Bank Collection, but your purchase supports our conservation mission.

    Seeds

The seed were a gift to a gardner in the N.E. USA, so I can’t report on their vitality. Shipment was prompt and packaging was appropriate. I miss your retail outlet on Campbell

Germination of Desert Senna in wintertime

Good germination results from the seeds after soaking them in water for two days. The trick now is keeping the seedlings growing during the winter. Some are under plant lights indoors; others are outside in plastic enclosures.
