    San Carlos Apache Domesticated

    • R016
    • Proboscidea parviflora var. hohokamiana.  Moderate-sized claws and white seeds. Collected from plants growing in a field of blue corn on the San Carlos Reservation in 1978. The claws are typically used in basketry.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

This variety has low germination rates, between 30 and 50% germination.  We have put twice as many seeds into the packet as usual to overcome the low rate of germinationWe encourage you to plant twice as many seeds as you otherwise would in order to get your desired number of plants.

Be aware that Devil’s claw seeds need hot temperatures in order to germinate, and may take as long as 3-4 weeks or even longer to sprout.  You can aid germination by scarifying the seeds: use a sharp knife to split open the seed coat at the pointy end, and soak in water overnight before planting.

      • Origin: Low Desert, about 2600 feet elevation
      • Approx. 1.5g/25 seeds per packet.
      • Limit 3 packets
These seeds are part of our conservation program and are not available for purchase. They are only available through Native American Seed Request
