EX001

Mayo Blusher

  • EX001
  • Cucurbita maxima.  These large, white to light green fruits are round to elongated in shape and blush pink when fully ripe. The apricot colored flesh has a wonderful sweet flavor and good firm texture. Good keepers. Very prolific variety for low desert, hot gardens, but produced even bigger fruits on the Navajo reservation with one of our partner growers.  It was a staff favorite when grown at the early NS/S location on NY Drive in Tucson.  It would even grow into the street!

From a Mayo community in coastal Sonora near the Gulf of California.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

    • Origin: low coastal, about 130' elevation
    • A little over 2 months from planting to first edible fruit; keeps producing until frost.
    • Approx. 4.5g/15 seeds per packet.
    • Limit 3 packets
  • $3.95

I planted the seeds on 4/2, and now on 4/24 they have sprouted, are robust, are getting 2 mature leaves. They haven't been eaten like the spinach sprouts. They are the best vegetables in the garden so far. But there is still a long ways to go!
