Hopi Pottery

NS/S is pleased to present a beautiful assortment of handcrafted Hopi pottery by Adelle Lalo Nampeyo Tewayguna (born 1959) from Polacca, Third Mesa, Arizona.
Adelle is a member of the famous Nampeyo family. She is a daughter of Elva Tewaguna Nampeyo, a granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo, and a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano who was known for reviving and expanding upon the ancient style of pottery named "Sikyatki". Adelle learned pottery making from her mother and grandmother. Her pots are hand coiled using traditional methods, polished with smooth stones and then painted with Nampeyo family designs with a yucca paintbrush. The pots are then fired in an outdoor pit covered with sheep dung.
