Tarahumara Yellow Apachito

Zea mays.  Similar to Tsetakame (Tarahumara Apachito) but these kernels are predominantly yellow, with occasional pink or apricot. One of the favorite races grown by the Tarahumara.  Apachitos are the fastest maturing Tarahumara corn in the NS/S collection. Short plants. Used for cornmeal, tortillas, atole (a corn based drink), and pink variants are used to prepare tesgüino, a  corn beer.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

  • Origin: very high desert, 7000' and higher
  • Cobs average 5-8" in length
